Ted Dean C.Ped

Ted Dean grew up in eastern Pennsylvania next to the family farm. His first ski experience was hiking around the farm on a borrowed pair of skis with cable bindings.  After college the addiction was fully set and he moved to Park City where he stayed for more than a decade.
He  returned home to help care for his ailing father. As his father was diabetic with a Charcot deformity on one side and a TMA on the other, one of the caregivers was a Pedorthist. Ted found the work fascinating and became a Cped in 2003.

He started practicing in an O&P facility fitting diabetic footwear, wound care offloading devices, and AFO’s.The next chapter was at a high end retail Pedorthic facility. 
After this he worked as a Clinical rep for Arizona AFO until recently.  In this role he provided Pedorthic care to Arizona’s Podiatry customers, chiefly, casting and fitting AFOs.  

A bootfitter once said to him that a ski boot acts as an AFO, which it turned out was true.

At the start of his Pedorthic career, ski boot fitting was not on Ted’s radar.  In Utah, Ted transitioned to leather and then low cut plastic, telemark ski boots in order to access more powder skiing.  After returning to Pennsylvania and wanting to return to Alpine boots both for greater edging capability and binding release ability, he started fiddling with ski boots. Finding a ski boot that worked with his narrow, flexible, anterior cavus foot was a challenge. Additionally, there were some biomechanical challenges to be  adjusted for as the Alpine boots without proper adaptation threw him off balance. Once he sorted his own boots out and time allowed he started ski boot fitting part time approximately 8 years ago. While the shop he works at caters mostly to lower end recreational skiers when compared to the other presenters, he gets all the problem child’s with alignment, orthopedic, or other complex issues.

He has attended three Masterfit seminars and endless hours researching ski boot fit and function.

Yes there is a little bit of obsession here..
